Artist Highlight: Face Paint by Kels

Published by Tatyana Beerbower, Craft-n-Go on Apr 29th 2025

Artistry often comes naturally for those who are called to create. It’s a powerful combination of passion, creativity, and an unwavering love for self-expression. When born with artistic talent, the next step is all about taking that leap of faith to turn what you love most into a dream job where you can paint smiles on clients faces daily. That’s exactly the story of this month’s Artist Highlight winner, Kelsie – founder of Face Paint by Kels. Her journey is a beautiful example of what happens when you follow your passion wholeheartedly.

Before discovering face painting, Kelsie worked professionally as a makeup artist in the creative industry.

“I loved the way makeup could transform someone’s look and boost their confidence,” she shares.
“But what truly lit me up was the joy of creating magic for others.”

Even before that, Kelsie always found joy in serving others and bringing smiles to their faces.

“Years ago, I worked as a party host at Chuck E. Cheese and absolutely loved making birthdays extra special. That experience stuck with me—it planted the seed for what would eventually become my business.”

In March 2024, Kelsie launched Face Paint by Kels, combining her artistic talent with her heart for others.

“It’s one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.”

Face painting turned out to be the perfect fit.

“It blends my artistic background with my love for working with kids. There’s something magical about the way a child lights up when they see themselves as a tiger, princess, or superhero.

It’s more than just paint—it’s about making memories, boosting confidence, and adding sparkle to their special day.”

As her business grew, one game-changer was her Standard Craft-n-Go Case.

“Having a professional, organized, and portable setup has helped me work more efficiently, book more events, and present myself as a polished and prepared artist. It’s a small upgrade with a huge impact.”

“This past year has been filled with color, creativity, and connection. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and even more excited for what’s ahead.”

We asked Kelsie to offer a piece of advice that she would share with artists who are new to the industry – this is what she had to say:

“Try not to stress about being perfect—just keep painting and have fun with it. The more you practice, the better you’ll get, and your confidence will grow too. Everyone starts somewhere, so give yourself some grace and enjoy the journey!”

Kelsie turned her favorite hobbies into the career of her dreams. She’s already created countless magical memories—and there’s no doubt many more are on the way.

Kelsie, thank you for sharing your story with us. Your passion for creating and serving others is inspiring. We’re cheering you on as you continue to shine as both an artist and entrepreneur.
