December Artist Highlight Winner: Chawna Bolinger
Chawna Bolinger’s creative journey began with dolls, florals, clay figures, and scrapbooking, but everything changed when she discovered face painting. What started as a simple creative outlet quickly grew into a lifelong passion. In October 2025, Chawna celebrated an incredible milestone—15 years as a professional face painter—and she has no plans of slowing down, fueled by her love for creating and the unwavering support of her family.
When Chawna first picked up a paintbrush, she never imagined it would become a full-time career.
“Wow, this October I celebrate 15 years of face painting! When I started, all I wanted to do was paint for my family—at my son’s football games and my daughter’s marching band events. When I found face painting, I knew this was it. I was able to paint, create, and truly engage with people.”

Based in the Denver metro area, Chawna credits much of her growth to the strong creative community around her. Through networking, collaboration, and relationship-building, she has connected with fellow artists and entertainers who share her passion for delivering quality experiences.
“We have an amazing community of face painters and family entertainers. We network together to offer quality services to our large community.”
Chawna has also invested heavily in continuing education, attending workshops and learning from respected artists in the industry—experiences that helped refine her technique and shape her artistic style.
“One of my first workshops was with Dutch Bihry, learning his Blobology techniques—it was fabulous. I’ve also attended Mark Reid’s body painting and festival design workshops, and I’ll never forget him saying, ‘If you’re going to paint one stroke, make it the best line—don’t just slap it down.’ That advice dramatically improved my art.”
“I also hosted two workshops with Ronnie Mena. I learned the most from him—he’s an incredible instructor and artist. After his workshops, I truly found my style.”

Family has always played a significant role in Chawna’s journey, both personally and professionally.
“Face painting has been a blessing to me and my family. My husband of 40 years is always there to help, my two youngest children have supported me in so many ways, and my oldest daughter, Brandy, is my biggest fan.”
“Brandy has cerebral palsy, visual impairment, and developmental delays. She is the reason I found face painting. When she turned 21, I hired a face painter and balloon artist to celebrate her. Watching Jackie Armstrong paint, I was instantly intrigued. I called her to ask about her products and suppliers—and now it’s come full circle.”
Chawna’s story is a beautiful reminder that creativity, when rooted in love, can open unexpected doors.
When she first began face painting, Chawna worked from small trays spread across a table—an arrangement that quickly became stressful and inefficient. Seeking a more professional and organized setup, she turned to Craft-n-Go.
“I’ve purchased my third kit—this time in pink—and I absolutely love my XL kit. It works best for me. The compliments I receive are worth every penny. My stress level is lower because everything has a place, my setup looks clean and organized, and my setup time is quick.”

Beyond the tools and techniques, the face painting community has given Chawna far more than she ever expected.
“Amazing friends I never would have met, confidence in my talents, a team of goal-driven artists I work alongside, and the tools to create and manage a successful business.”
Looking ahead, Chawna is already dreaming about what’s next.
“My goal for 2026 is to start offering workshops and online videos. Caring for my daughter during the week makes it challenging, but I’m determined to find a way to make it happen.”
“Let’s set our goals and crush them!”
Chawna’s journey is a powerful reminder that passion can be discovered in the most unexpected moments. Watching her grow, find her artistic voice, and build meaningful connections within the creative community is truly inspiring. We’re cheering her on and wish her continued joy and success in the years ahead.
